Read that title. Now read it again. Sends a shiver down your spine, does it not?
News has filtered out from Hollywood that plans are under way to finally reboot the Jurassic Park series with a fourth instalment of dinosaur entertainment madness, and people are really getting quite excited about it (this writer included). Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are the screen-writing husband and wife duo behind last year’s surprise hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes, a kind of prequel to the original movies that explains how that whole monkey domination thing came to be. Now it has been announced that they have been given the go ahead to create a screenplay for Jurassic Park 4, and are in final negotiations as to just how much glorious money they will receive for doing it.
Steven Spielberg announced at Comic-Con last year that he was looking to shoot the reboot fairly soon, and this looks like some solid movement in the right direction. Spielberg will most likely be producing rather than directing, which means that a particularly large chair will also need to be filled before the movie goes ahead. No other details regarding storyline or casting have yet been announced, although it is reasonably safe to say that there will be dinosaurs, carnage, and mayhem. I for one cannot wait.
Spielberg’s production partner Kathleen Kennedy commented that the script is going to have to be a good one, saying: “So we’ve kind of created the dilemma ourselves because it was never intended to be a franchise, so there’s an argument to be made, ‘Why are you doing a fourth Jurassic Park?’ So we’ve gotta find a good reason for why we’re doing a fourth ‘Jurassic Park’ and we’re in the midst of working on that right now.”
The continuing existence of Jeff Goldblum within the movie series is also as yet unconfirmed.
