Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin are the Monty Pyton crew, who began their careers in the ground breaking TV show “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” in 1969 which ran until 1974 with a total of 41 episodes. The movie was intended to introduce American audiences to Python’s comedy, but ironically, it did far better business in Britain, where viewers had already seen the movie’s sketches.
And Now For Something Completely Different is an anthology of the funniest sketches from the first two series of Flying Circus. Take your pick from a truly hilarious collaboration of sketches that include The dead parrot, Hells Grannies, Bicycle Repair man, The dirty fork and The upper class twit of the year. One of my personal favourites has to be the brilliant “say no more, nudge, nudge” sequence, which has me rolling on the floor laughing, it’s so simple yet so brilliantly written and performed as are all of the sketches.
I happen to be a fan of Flying Circus but I think this great film brings the elite sketches out and makes it one 90 minute laugh out loud session. Where as Flying Circus did contain some that were not as good as others, And Now For Something Completely Different shows their genius in the truest of forms.
